Ndizigwaze ngowam! (isiXhosa: I have stabbed myself with my own spear) centers around two teenage boys who are best friends, Xola and Ndoda.
Xola’s mother died when he was very young and he is being raised by his loving but poor grandmother.
Ndoda, on the other hand, has dropped out of school and has an easier life. He is spoiled by his mother and becomes a problem child and causes as much trouble as he can.
The story plays out in an unnamed township in Cape Town to illustrate the shared struggles of all the townships in the city with poverty, unemployment, alcohol and crime.
It is a coming-of-age story where the boys scam people out of their money and how their crimes eventually catch up with them.
